Ode to Maher: Bill Maher

Bill Maher is spot on. His wry and honest commentary on the recent Cheney shooting and the Bush administration in general is a must see. Lordy lordy.

More Maher:
1.
2.

A pretty neat idea called airtroductions. It's airplane social networking. Passengers arrange who they sit next to on a flight. Meet new people, learn about different companies, date, or talk with people your age on flights, cab rides, etc.

Gladwell on social services.

More Huraki Murakami in the New Yorker.

Wild beyond belief. Wasps make good pimps. So wasps. Wasps are motherfuckers. They'll sting a roach, temporarily paralyzing it, sting it again—this time in the head to disable its escape reflex, thereby suspending it in a zombie-like state where the wasp can control its every move—then steer it to the wasp's burrow where it will then be used to roost the wasp's larvae. These larvae eventually hatch, bite their way into the roach, weave themselves into cocoons, and then come out all fresh and clean—so fresh and so clean—in about four weeks.

Blue States Lose, alive and kicking.

New Gladwell in the New Yorker (profiling and pitbulls). Not as good as his usual stuff.

Monica Ali in the New Yorker last week.

Words not to put on your resume.

You know that movie "Good Night and Good Luck"? It's all about Edward R. Murrow.

News! about Aaron Sorkin's new show on NBC. Matthew Perry and Amanda Peet have signed on, in addition to Steven Wright, Nate Corddry, and mothafuckin D.L. Hughley. I ain't none-to-thrilled about Corddry and Hughley, but I'm sure the rest of the cast can pull it off. Come on. It's Sorkin.

More fiction in the New Yorker. This time, Huraki Murakami.
